Research

Dr. Gomez-Garcia’s expertise and research interest include the analysis and development of radar systems, and scattering analysis of electromagnetic waves. His doctoral work involved the developed of a scattering analysis method for simulating the forward backscatter due to wheat canopies and for retrieving their leaf-area density. At CReSIS, Dr. Gomez-Garcia has been playing a major role for the development of radar systems. His work spans the development of RF/microwave sub-systems, antennas, waveform generators and improvements of data acquisition systems. He has developed frequency linearization methods for chirp generators used in medium-range frequency-modulated-continuous-wave radars. His efforts have enabled the development of the 2-8 GHz and the 2-18 GHz chirp generators used for the ultra-wideband Snow Radars. He has participated in field experiments for the installation, testing, operation and data processing of radar systems since 2010. His field experiment experience includes the operation of radar systems for the NASA operation Ice Bridge campaigns. He received the NASA Group Achievement Award in 2011 and 2013. He has also received the Antarctic Service Medal of the United States.
